House Rules
This is a 1990s Barbadian-style home—not US, UK, EU, or CA—but a Barbadian family home that has been in our family for two generations. While there have been upgrades and added amenities, the bones of this home are authentically originally Barbadian. Please review ALL photos provided before booking.
Zanadu's House Rules
Please provide the names of all persons 18+ in your party and a phone number for emergencies.
Trip Insurance—Please purchase travel insurance to cover any losses if you need to cancel your reservation after the cancellation window.
Age Restriction—The booking party must be 25 years old or older and be present for the duration of the reservation.
Plumbing System—DO NOT FLUSH ANYTHING BUT A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TOILET PAPER. If you flush wipes, paper towels, feminine hygiene products, or anything other than toilet paper, there will be immediate sewage backflow into the house pipes. You will be charged for all damages, repair costs, and lost booking fees during the repair period.
No Smoking—Do NOT smoke in the house. Violating this rule will result in an additional USD$800 fee to remove the odor from fabrics and soft surfaces.
Parties—There are NO parties at the property. A party is a social gathering of nine or more persons with music, food, and/or drinks.
Tiny Humans—We welcome families with young guests in our home, but please understand that this property has a pool on the rear patio, so children must be supervised AT ALL TIMES. Please also note that the house is NOT child-proof by US/UK/EU/CA standards. Please monitor and supervise all children and never leave them unattended.
Security—There are no interior cameras in the home. However, there are exterior security cameras for your safety. These exterior motion sensor cameras are trained on the entrances and are only active at night between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. Tampering with any security features will result in immediate nonrefundable cancellation.
Outdoor Shower—There is an outdoor shower on the southern side of the patio. Please use it to rinse all sand off before entering the house. Excess sand in the home will result in additional cleaning fee charges.
Garage/Parking—The garage allows parking for two vehicles. Please use caution when parking so as not to damage the garage door, laundry equipment, or the home.
Hot Water—The house's hot water is supplied via a solar-heated tank. Please be mindful of the water temperature to avoid scalding.
Air Conditioning—All bedrooms have air conditioning. The air conditioning must only be used while the person is present in the bedroom. The air conditioning, lights, and fan must be turned off whenever the person leaves the room and upon checkout. (See the comfort tips section below.)
Electric Consumption—According to the house meter, Electricity consumption of more than 29kWh per day will incur additional charges of USD$100 for every additional 5kWh.
Food Waste—Please promptly secure all food waste in the garbage bag, which can be provided in the kitchen. If needed, items can be disposed of in the outdoor trash bin at the end of the driveway. This is to keep island critters out of the home.
Linens and Towels—Sand, suntan lotion, bronzer, and makeup cause permanent stains on our linens and towels. Guests must take precautions, as items rendered unusable must be replaced and will be billed at cost.
Quiet Hours—Please be respectful of this quiet, residential, family neighborhood. Quiet hours are from 10 pm to 5 am.
Life in the tropics—Please understand that this is a tropical island. You might see or encounter tropical wildlife while in our home (especially if you keep the doors open for prolonged periods) or neighborhood, including, but not limited to monkeys, crabs, turtles, stray cats, stray dogs, bats, centipedes, mongoose, mosquitoes, millipedes, sand flies, birds, spiders, snails, slugs, flies, worms, crickets, grasshoppers, water bugs, lizards, ants, etc. These creatures are native to the tropics, and we have no control over them. We cannot control Mother Nature, so do not refund if you encounter her creatures during your stay.
Washer/Dryer—The garage has a washer-dryer unit inside. Please shake the sand from the clothing before washing. Please use only the HE detergent provided or another HE detergent of your choosing. For drying clothes, be certain to clean the dryer filter between each use. The garage side door and/or the main garage door should be opened; otherwise, drying time may be greatly extended.
Stoves—The kitchen island has induction electric and gas stovetop options. All cookware provided is suitable for use on either stovetop. Please be cautious and ensure the gas stovetop is turned off after use.

Tips:
Among the many advantages of Zanadu's location is that there is typically a pleasant breeze that will generally keep the home comfortable during the day and evening. The house has numerous windows that swing outwards and have a handle latching system to hold them in place. Opening the garage door will also bolster the breeze through the kitchen sink windows. The garage entry and rear doors also have a rear hook system to hold them in the open position to prevent unwanted slamming.
At night, the AC units allow sleeping with closed bedroom windows and doors and blackout curtains drawn (in case you do not want to be awakened by the 6 am morning sun on your tropical holiday!). We recommend a temperature between 23 and 25 degrees Celsius (73.5 to 77 degrees Fahrenheit) to sleep comfortably. Again, please turn the AC off and open the windows during the day.
